[EN] How I Scored a €580 Round-trip Deal: Barcelona to Seoul with Etihad Airways (Summer 2026)

Hello everyone, this is A LOT TO SHARE.

I’ve recently completed the booking for our family’s summer trip from Barcelona to Seoul. Finding a reasonable airfare for the summer high season is always a challenge, but I managed to secure tickets for €580 per person. Since many of you might be planning your summer getaways, I wanted to share the details of this deal and the strategy I used.

Why Etihad Airways?

When I was comparing airlines, the aircraft model was a huge factor. This route is operated by newer models like the Boeing 787-9 (Dreamliner) and Airbus A350-1000. These planes offer better cabin humidity and a quieter environment, which are essential for staying fresh during a long flight. Plus, the standard 25kg baggage allowance is perfect for our 6-week stay.

Better Than a Direct Flight? The Perks of a Layover

Interestingly, I’ve started to prefer this schedule over a direct flight. Flying for 12 or 13 hours straight can be incredibly exhausting. By having a layover in Abu Dhabi, we get a chance to stretch our legs, walk around, and get some fresh air mid-way. It breaks up the long journey, making the overall travel experience much less taxing than being stuck in a cabin for half a day.

💡 Tip for Expats in Europe: Check Your Local Departure!

Although I am departing from Barcelona, Etihad often runs similar promotions across other major European hubs. If you are living in Europe—whether it's Paris, Madrid, Rome, or Frankfurt—I highly recommend checking the rates from your city. You might be surprised to find a similar "hidden gem" deal to Seoul!

The Deal: €2,323 for a Family of 4 (€580 each)

We booked for two adults and two children/teens, totaling €2,323. Breaking it down to about €580 each, it’s an incredible price for late June.

  • Flexibility: This fare includes one free date change. Traveling with kids can be unpredictable, so this added flexibility was a major selling point for us.

Strategic Booking: Avoiding the July Spike

In Barcelona, flight prices tend to skyrocket once July hits. My strategy was to fly out in the last week of June, immediately after my daughter’s school term ended. I initially tracked a Qatar Airways offer for around €680 on Skyscanner, but checking the Etihad official website directly led me to this €580 deal.

Optimized Schedule and Layovers

I spent a lot of time picking the right time slots to minimize jet lag:

  • Smart Arrival Time: We arrive back in Barcelona at 7:15 PM. We can have a quiet dinner at home and go straight to bed, which is the most effective way to recover.

  • Balanced Layovers: The outbound flight has a quick 1h 50m transfer—great for reaching Seoul quickly. On the way back, the 8-hour layover gives us a chance to relax and explore the new Zayed International Airport terminal at a leisurely pace.

Navigating Regional Concerns

I did have some hesitations due to the current situation in the Middle East. However, considering the airline’s high safety standards and the exceptional value of this schedule, I decided it was a deal too good to pass up.
